[If you’re looking for the format & broadcast schedule of the Phase 1 Playoffs, visit this post.]
Hello SMITE esports fans!
Following an in-depth evaluation of the ongoing situation around the COVID-19 coronavirus, our league operations staff has made the difficult decision to cancel the SPL Phase 1 Playoff LAN scheduled for June 12-14 and move this event online. While the state of Georgia has begun reopening, we still have several concerns about the safety of hosting a LAN event while the virus continues to spread. The health of our players and staff are always the top priority, so at this time we cannot in good conscience expose them to the potential hazards of a close-quarter LAN environment.
Instead, we will be hosting the entire playoff event online, in much the same way that we’ve run all of our pro league games for Phase 1 thus far. In spite of this transition, the format and prize pool for our playoff event will remain exactly the same as originally planned:
- Single-elimination bracket
- 1st and 2nd seeds from SPL Phase 1 will receive a BYE into the semifinals
- 1st seed team will also select their semifinal opponent from the quarterfinal match winners
- 3rd through 6th seeds from SPL Phase 1 will play in quarterfinals
- Best-of-five (Bo5) matches all the way through
- $100,000 prize pool
We’ll release more information about this event — including participating teams, broadcast schedule, and a full prize pool breakdown — once all our pro league teams have qualified for the playoffs.
We understand that this decision is disappointing for players and fans, and all of us here at Hi-Rez Productions are looking forward to the day when we can safely resume LAN operations. But for now, we appreciate our community’s support as we try to keep our players and staff happy and healthy in the midst of these unprecedented circumstances.
